Description
Tired from Engadin?! The Misox may not immediately come to mind as a top vacation spot, but it definitely should be, although let's keep it our little secret. The Waterfall House is situated among a cluster of authentic Rusticos, above Mesocco. A short walk from the house will take you to a waterfall with a natural pool, perfect for a refreshing swim. Hiking and skiing at San Bernardino is your autumn and winter program!
The Waterfall house is situated amidst a cluster of genuine Rusticos, above Mesocco. A short stroll from the house brings you to a waterfall with a natural pool that is perfect for swimming. Although the house is modest, it is adequately equipped and perfect for a short or long stay with friends and/or family. It consists of three floors:
It's a tranquil place, ideal for a small work retreat. The living room features a grand Speckstein oven that provides ample warmth after several hours of heating, and the kitchen has an electric stove and oven as well as a wood oven to heat the room. The upstairs bedrooms are not heated except on extreme days when a mobile radiator is available. In the winter months, cherry stone pillows are available to preheat your beds.
Mesocco is not a well-known tourist destination, and a coffee still costs CHF 2.50 instead of CHF 5.00. From the bedroom, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Mesocco and the mountains. You can also see the concrete highway bridges that are ingeniously integrated into the Alpine landscape.
A car would be helpful, but the house is easily accessible by public transport and foot. It's approximately a 20-minute walk from the nearest bus station. From Zurich, you can reach the house by car or public transport in 2.5 hours, making it an attractive weekend destination.
Since the house is located on the South side of Kanton Graubünden, the Ticino side, you can enjoy the best of both worlds: outstanding weather, skiing in the winter, and swimming in lakes and small rivers, as well as Graubünden and Ticino cuisine.
The house has a dining table right in front of it, and just a few steps further, next to a freshly planted apple tree, there is a garden area with another large table and a sun umbrella.
You can drive right up to the house by car, but as the road does not continue, there is no traffic. Children can play freely here, run along the stream, and explore the area on their own. The neighborhood is very friendly and open-minded, and people help each other while enjoying their privacy at the same time. In the evening, you can take a walk down to the village of Mesocco and stop at one of the restaurants.
In summer, swimming is a must.
During the autumn months, you can enjoy fantastic hiking here, collect chestnuts and walnuts, and of course, gather mushrooms.
In winter, you can embark on grand ski tours in San Bernardino, visit the Eden Roc Spa or public indoor swimming area Therma next to the lake in Locarno, and simply take a break. Alternatively, you can explore the small ski resort in San Bernardino or the slightly more distant but worthwhile Tschappina. At San Bernardino, there is a fantastic cross-country skiing trail. During the winter months, it's recommended to arrive early so that the soapstone stove can be preheated properly. However, the top floor doesn't get very warm, which is sufficient for sleeping but may not be suitable for everyone. Additionally we have a mobile electronic heater.
In spring, you can start going for walks again and enjoy the warm sun. A shuttle service from Mesocco village to the house can be arranged, and during the winter months, a preheating service is also available to ensure that the soapstone stove is warm upon arrival. However, the exact arrival time must be known for this.
Next to the house is the farm-shop inspired The Estate, a former goat barn used since 2023 to showcase one contemporary artwork at a time and offer self service espresso. Scan the QR code at the barn door to enter.

- The first floor comprises the kitchen, living room, and a single bedroom,
- On the second floor, there is a futon room that can accommodate up to 4 adults or 6 kids, as well as a master bedroom with a double bed and another single bedroom. Both the master and single bedrooms are furnished with small home office or writing desks.
