Description

'Caesar's Ciabòt' - this small building, first mentioned in documents dating back to 1755, served as a shelter for Caesar's great-grandfather and his cattle, which grazed in the surrounding meadows during the summer months and were penned up in the stable on the ground floor of the Ciabòt at nightfall. On the upper floor, sparsely furnished, a simple meal was prepared over an open fire and people slept on the stored hay.

The house was built with stones from the Alta Langa, stacked on top of each other without mortar and joined only with wet earth. Until a few years ago, Cesare used the building in the same way as his ancestors.
In recent years, however, it has fallen into disuse and gradually deteriorated. It is thanks to Cesare's daughter Bruna that it has been lovingly restored and now houses a comfortable holiday home for guests in the Alta Langa. It is located among meadows and woods, on the edge of the municipality of Mombarcaro, with a wide view of the Bormida and Belbo valleys. Early risers can admire the sunrise over the hills from the terrace and the sunset over the Alps, to round off a relaxing day.
The nearest building is about 400 metres away. (Agriturismo with good food).
The former stable now houses a small bathroom with shower and a cosy kitchen next to the staircase, while the living room and bedroom are on the upper floor. The old walls and roof structure, where they still exist, have remained intact and still give the Ciabòt its unmistakable charm.
The enchanting surroundings invite you to go hiking, directly from the house you can explore the surrounding woods, a few metres away is the 'sunflower path', one of the most famous and
most beautiful hiking trails in Piedmont. Cyclists can explore the beauty of the area via small, narrow roads. Day trips to Milan (2 hours by car), Turin (1 hour), Alba (45 min), Savona (45 min), Genoa (1 hour) offer interesting variety. Numerous churches and chapels in the vicinity offer culture lovers an overview of art from the 12th to the 18th century.
Several golf courses and tennis courts are less than half an hour away, while horse riding, balloon flights, languages, cooking, stonemasonry, metalwork and painting courses enrich the wide range of activities on offer. It takes just under an hour to reach one of the ski resorts near Mondovì.
Piedmont, and in particular the Alta Langa, offers gourmets a variety of delicious dishes, served in the region's osterias and restaurants, but also in simple agriturismi. From the Langa hills come the world-famous wines Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Moscato, Arneis and many others. Tasting these wines in one of the countless wine cellars is an integral part of the holiday programme, as is visiting one of the small farms that produce the delicious Tuma (cheese made from cow's, sheep's or goat's milk).
