Cozy cottage with view of the Wadden Sea
Rent a genuine, old Rømø house with thatched roof, beautifully situated on a scenic natural plot. The house features a small entrance hall with access to a compact bathroom with shower and toilet, as well as a small bunk room with two beds. From the entrance, there is access to the kitchen and living room. Enjoy panoramic views of the Wadden Sea and the Rømø causeway. On clear mornings, the sunrise over the Wadden Sea is a daily delight. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, induction stove, fridge with freezer, air fryer, convection oven, and extractor hood. The living room is furnished with comfortable cigar-brown leather sofas, a coffee table, and cozy wooden armchairs with sheepskin. The dining table is a beautiful antique long table with matching bench and chairs, seating six in total. The house is heated with a heat pump on the ground floor and electric radiators in the bunk room, bathroom, and upstairs bedroom. Upstairs is a landing with two single beds and a gable window offering sea views. From the landing, you enter a bedroom with a double bed. Outside, enjoy garden furniture on the grassy natural plot. The adjoining field is ideal for ball games, kite flying, and other outdoor activities. The house, newly renovated but originally built in 1702, was once a sailor’s home. On Rømø, social status in the 1700s was indicated by the number of chimneys: one for sailors, two for mates, and three for captains. This house belongs to the neighboring captain’s farm, now known as Hattesgaard, which today hosts a charming antique café serving coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and 35–45 varieties of luxury cakes five days a week. The house, named “Mines Minde,” was named after a maid who worked at Hattesgaard for 25 years. In 1910, she bought this property—then under German rule—and worked around the island daily for 50 pfennig until her death in 1940. Today, the house is a true little Wadden Sea gem, set on a natural plot surrounded by grass, forest, and fields. It offers a stunning wide sea view and beautiful natural light through the many windows. From Tuesday to Saturday, Café Hattesgaard is open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. During these hours, the area around Hattesgaard is lively, and guests should expect increased activity from visitors and vehicles in the parking area and on the nearby field. The café is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Guests renting the house are in the front row for the best coffee and cakes in Southern Jutland. To the west lies a protected, untouched nature area owned by the Hattesgaard estate. In summer, Galloway cattle roam freely. These animals help maintain the area and are an important part of its ecological care. They are calm and harmless. Visitors are welcome to explore the area, which includes bunkers and trenches. Wildlife is abundant, including deer and birds of prey. However, on hunting days (which are clearly signposted), visitors should not enter the area. Lakolk Beach is about 4 km away. It is Northern Europe's largest public beach, and you can drive your car directly onto the sand. In addition to the nature surrounding the house, Rømø offers varied landscapes, beaches, restaurants, cafés, and good shopping opportunities. The ceiling height in the house is 1.87 meters, lower under the wooden beams, and 2 meters in the conservatory. Note: Not for commercial rental.
